Oral Surgeon Adam T. Hershkin, D.M.D.

Dr. Adam Hershkin D.M.D. was born in New York City and raised on Long Island. He attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1996. It was there that Dr. Hershkin first became involved in health care and teaching, performing medical research and teaching classes in the department of anatomy. Before graduating, Dr. Adam Hershkin lived in London for several months where he collaborated on a research project in the department of anatomy at Kings College.
Dr. Hershkin went on to dental school at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he found himself drawn to oral and maxillofacial surgery. He was elected secretary of the oral and maxillofacial surgery honor society and earned his DMD degree in 2001. After completing an internship in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Dr. Hershkin returned to New York as a resident in oral and maxillofacial surgery at St. Lukes – Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan, where he served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Hershkin D.M.D. is a co-author of a chapter on oral and maxillofacial regional anesthesia in a textbook titled, Peripheral Nerve Blocks – Principles and Practice as well as the author of multiple case reports. Dr. Hershkin enjoys teaching and has lectured on various topics, to residents in training as well as to his peers. He is on staff at St. Lukes Roosevelt Hospital, where he teaches residents and performs OR-based surgeries. Dr. Hershkin is a member of the American Dental Association, the New York State Dental Association, the New York County Dental Society, the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the New York State Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Oral Surgeon Dr. Hershkin is proficient and enjoys performing all aspects of surgery including dento-alveolar surgery, dental implants and bone grafting, and orthognathic surgery. He is also skilled in the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, , facial trauma and temporomandibular disorders. Although Dr. Hershkin practices full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery, he has a particular affinity for the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders, something that he has personally suffered through for over 20 years. As a result of his own experiences, Dr. Hershkin has a very unique perspective of the diagnosis and treatment of this difficult disease. As a result of his experiences as a patient, Oral Surgeon Dr. Hershkin is able to understand and relate to his patients in a very meaningful way. Dr. Hershkin feels very strongly about the mistreatment of these vulnerable, sometimes desperate, patients and takes great pride in providing affordable, effective counseling and treatment, often without a lot of expensive, unnecessary diagnostic tests.

In his spare time, Adam is an avid sports fan, amateur photographer and a gourmet chef. He enjoys playing sports, fishing, travel and music.
